The National Records and archives Authority signed a memorandum with the Portuguese prime minister. The agreement was the fruit of series of contacts and negotiations by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate at the Omani embassy in France. The agreement allows the Omani side to have a legal access to documents, manuscripts, maps, and any documents about the Omani Portuguese ancient histories, especially those dating back to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The memorandum includes cooperation between the two institutions and the exchange of experience and the development of common activities, such as exhibitions, training and documents’ treatment. It provides the opportunity for Omani researchers to take advantage of documents to study the historical relations and especially the Portuguese history in the gulf area. The implementation of the programs agreed upon starts in the coming period.
His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammad Al-Dhouyeni head of the National Records and Archives Authority and His Excellency Francisco Seixas da Costa ambassador of the Republic of Portugal at the Portuguese embassy in France signed the agreement. This agreement translated the primary targets and objectives of the Omani authority to mutually cooperate and collaborate with other records and archives’ authorities worldwide to collect and preserve any document related to the Sultanate.
