The Authority signed an agreement with The Tanzanian Republic

The Sultanate and the Republic of Tanzania at Qasr Al Bustan Hotel signed a number of agreements and memorandums on cooperation in the field of the promotion and protection of investments in higher education and the exchange of records and archives and the establishment of the Tanzanian Omani Council for Businessmen. The meeting was attended by his excellency Jakaya Myoushou Kikweeti the President of the United Republic of Tanzania and His Excellency engineer Ali Bin Masoud Al-Snidi, Minister of Trade and Industry and his companions and a number of prominent ministers and businessmen from both Omani and Tanzanian sides. The first agreement signed between the Sultanate and the Republic of Tanzania aimed at promoting investments and ways to protect them. His Excellency Sultan bin Salem bin Saeed Al Habsi secretary general of the Supreme Council for Planning signed on behalf of the Sultanate and his Excellency Bernard M’membe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation signed for Tanzanian side. This convention will guarantee further cooperation between the two countries, give both sides the right to transfer money and encourage them to safely exchange investments. The two countries signed a Memorandum for cooperation in the field of higher education. On behalf of the government Her Excellency Dr. Rawya bint Saud al-Busaidia, minister of Higher Education and his Excellency Haroon Sulaiman, minister of Economic Development and Cooperation of the Government of Zanzibar signed the agreement. The agreement encourages both sides to exchange authorities’ academicians for research and the exchange of materials, tools and programs used in this domain. Both sides are encouraged to participate in workshops and meetings related to higher education. The second memorandum aimed at enhancing cooperation in the field of documentation and archives. His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammad Al-Dhouyeni Chairman of the National Documents and Archives Authority signed the agreement on behalf of the Government and Mr.George di Yambasa permanent secretary in the Office of the President of the Department of Public Services of the Republic of Tanzania signed for Tanzania. The agreement allows both sides to conduct necessary research and studies and exchange copies of records and archives. The memorandum permitted both sides to exchange books’ references, records and documents’ lists, scientific releases and research related to records and archives’ management systems. The exchange of experiences in the area of documentation and archives. And most of all, to benefit from each team’s technical and technological approaches in records and archives management. The second agreement is related to the establishment of Tanzanian Omani businessmen Council. On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Oman His .Excellency Khalil bin Abdullah Alkhnji, the president of Omani Commerce and Industry Chamber and the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of the Republic of Tanzania signed the agreement. The targeted businessmen council aims at finding effective strategies to develop the economic and commercial affairs of businessmen in both countries and promote opportunities for mutual investment and simplify the procedures for businessmen in order to establish their investments and hold exhibitions and exchange trade convoys. His Excellency Jakaya Myoushou Kikweti, president of the United Republic of Tanzania delivered a speech during the opening of Tanzanian Omani Businessmen’s Forum that was held at the Qasr AL BUSTAN Hotel. He said that Tanzania is a country stuffed with investment opportunities and projects, and that his country sought, during two decades of time, to create a suitable environment for investment by opening doors to investors and offered businessmen large package of investment incentives. His Excellency said that in addition to the political stability, Tanzania made legislations to protect investment and investors. And said that Tanzania is a member of many treaties and conventions for regional and international organizations. Besides, the availability of qualified manpower and a series of economic reforms other than the strategic location of the republic. He concluded that these advantages have encouraged many investors to start their projects in Tanzania, including Omani investors who launched a number of investments in the period from 2000 to 2011 some 36 projects of up to more than 200 million US dollars in multiple sectors. His Excellency added that in the recent period, the numbers of foreign direct investments have increased in Tanzania. Especially with the availability of guarantees and incentives. He expressed his hope to raise opportunities for trade between Oman and Tanzania through numerous prospects available in the industrial and economic areas made to facilitate industrial production and export. His Excellency the Tanzanian President assured Omani businessmen that there are plenty of investment opportunities in Tanzania such as agriculture, mining, tourism, industry, and fisheries and information and communication technology, as well as the development of infrastructure. The president referred to the Tanzanian population, about 45 million people, which is a promising market open for countries of Eastern and Southern Africa as well as the existence of agreements with the United States of America and the European Union, China, Japan, which would encourage businessmen to invest in Tanzania. His Excellency Khalil bin Abdullah alkhnji president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Sultanate of Oman referred to the close relations with the countries of East Africa’s in general and Tanzania in particular, describing it as an ancient historical relations dating back to far distant past . The glorification of this common history has been translated on the ground by businessmen and entrepreneurs who have been investing in various economic sectors. His Excellency Khalil bin Abdullah alkhnji stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation between the various administrative units in the government and the private sector in each of the Sultanate and Tanzania to develop trade and economic affairs. He pointed out that the Sultanate has created an atmosphere suitable for the growth and the development of business and investment and that they made laws to develop and ensure local and foreign investments and provided necessary basic services and initiated the establishment of an integrated commercial and industrial areas and cities, expressing his hope that the establishment of the Omani Tanzanian investment projects would push further cooperation between economic enterprises in the two countries. He pointed out that trade exchange indicators between the two countries show that the the amount of products and commodities imported and exported is not enough and doesn’t include all sectors and that the volume of trade exchange is not as expected. He insisted on the necessity of increasing the volume of trade exchange and common investments, raise the rate of trade through the cooperation of the private sector in the sultanate and the republic of Tanzania and benefit from the positive factors available, especially clear support from governments of the two countries. After that, two work papers were introduced by Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the two countries on investments and investment opportunities available in the various economic sectors such as trade, tourism and service .the meeting witnessed also bilateral meetings between businessmen from both sides to shed lights on the nature of the investment opportunities available in both countries.
