The National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA), in collaboration with Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate, has officially adopted the Records Management System for the Governor’s Office, covering its various structural divisions, affiliated wilayats, and the offices of the walis across the governorate. This step is part of joint efforts to enhance records preservation procedures and promote administrative governance.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhawyani, Chairman of the NRAA, and H.E. Mahmoud bin Yahya Al-Dhahli, Governor of Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate.
H.E. Dr. Al-Dhawyani explained that the adoption of the system aims to enhance the efficiency of records management and preservation in line with the latest international standards. It includes the preparation of retention schedules and classification systems following the completion of the official records nominative list for the governorate.
For his part, H.E. the Governor of Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate stated that with the system now in effect, the Governorate’s Records Department, in coordination with the NRAA, will begin training the relevant staff on how to implement the system, as stipulated in the Records Law issued by Royal Decree No. 60/2007. This includes introducing various system tools, such as records classification, retention periods, and modern procedures for preservation and management.
It is worth noting that the preparation of the Records Management System tools went through several stages, including coordination with the administrative structures of the Governor’s Office, preparing a comprehensive list of records types and files in order to create the procedural tools, involving retention schedules and classification systems, which were formally approved by the NRAA.
The application of the system is very important to enhancing government records management mechanisms. It contributes to improved administrative performance, ensures the secure preservation of information, and supports better decision-making processes, in line with Oman’s Vision to improve administrative systems and adopt international best practices in records and archives management.
