Sixth International Conference Concludes its Activities
31 May، 2018The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra is part of the 6th International Conference
Among the events associated with the Sixth International Conference “Oman’s Relations with the Indian Ocean and Gulf States during the 17th and 19th centuries”. Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra presented a collection of music pieces that were highly appreciated by those interested in music and art. The Orchestra was established in September 1985 under the guidance of H.M. Sultan Qaboos bin Said who was interested in music and culture. The young men and women who were willing to experience a new world of music joined it. At the beginning, the idea of the establishment was unique and rare and a courageous step full of confidence and encouragement. The Orchestra has participated in many notable events in Belgium, Berlin, UNESCO in Paris and other countries. Many of the main orchestra members, who began their musical career with their first class music, are still exist today.
The success of the orchestra is attributed to the wise guidance of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, his vision and sincere confidence and his generous and lasting sponsorship. In the belief of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the role of the arts in establishing culture, peace and cooperation among nations and his belief in the necessity of adapting music as an important humanitarian tool in spreading human values such as peace, tolerance and coexistence among peoples. The leadership of H.M. the Sultan has continued to work for 30 years since the founding of a professional international orchestra composed of all its members. His Majesty realized that the cultural impact of the establishment of the Omani Royal Symphony Orchestra so that he stressed the need to balance cultures between modernity and heritage with the his prior knowledge that the establishment of the orchestra does not mean neglect of our traditions and heritage. He says “To preserve our musical heritage in Oman, I cannot prefer color to another or separate works, I like Andalusian, Turkish and Iranian music and a lot of Indian and African music. I hope all these efforts to develop music will succeed in representing my vision in raising the level of cultural awareness among individuals in general and the level of music education in particular.”
