In the presence of the Excellencies Walis of the Wilayats of Al Batinah South Governorate, His Excellency Eng. Masoud bin Said Al-Hashmi, Governor of South Al Batinah, and His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhawyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA), officially approved the classification system and records retention schedules for the Governor’s Office of South Al Batinah and its affiliated administrative divisions, including the offices of the Walis across the governorate.
The Governor’s Office prepared a comprehensive guide to records management in line with legal provisions. This guide includes the various types of records handled within the governorate, reflecting the tasks and activities carried out by the Governor’s Office. It also establishes a classification system to group records related to specific topics under a unified code, facilitating easier retrieval and search processes. Additionally, the guide outlines records retention schedules that define the legal timeframes for retaining records, whether at the level of working offices, intermediary storage, or permanent preservation by the NRAA. This system will enable the Governor’s Office to manage its records in accordance with best practices and enhancing quality in executing its responsibilities and services.
His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhawyani stated that the approval of the classification and retention schedules for South Al Batinah aims to empower departments and sections to manage their records effectively, streamline workflows, and identify important records for transfer to the national memory archive. With this approval, the number of institutions that have completed their records management systems now exceeds 125 government and state-owned entities.
On a related note, Hisham bin Khalid Al-Rawshdi, Director of the Electronic Documents and Records System, delivered a presentation on Wosool, the electronic records management platform developed by the NRAA. The platform enables government entities to manage their records and information assets efficiently, in accordance with international standards and best practices. Wosool aims to expedite transactions, ensure the confidentiality of sensitive records, and is a key initiative within the government’s digital transformation strategy.
