The International Conference of Islamic Civilization and culture and the role of Oman in the Great Lakes Countries.
National Records and Archives Authority arranged this conference with the cooperation of Al-Wasat Office, the University of Peace and Reconciliation Burundian and University of Burundi. Rukara Khalfan said that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos always support African people to enhance peaceful and development in these areas.
Kahlan Al-Kharousi indicated that knowing each other is one basic pillar in the Holy Quran and we can communicate and reciprocate with others.
Al-Dhoyani concluded that researches and studies serves students and supports scientific researches and intellectual creativity.
The International Conference of Civilization and Islamic Culture and the role of Oman in the Great Lakes Countries hold on 9th to 12th December 2014, under the patronage of His excellency Mohammed Rukara Khalfan, Mediator of the Republic of Burundi, Protocol Degree Vice President of the Republic with the presence of dignitary people of both sides and a group of intellectuals and researchers. The conference discussed many issues about the History and Omani Civilization and its role and effect in the Great Lakes Countries which had a positive impact on the peaceful coexistence and the culture, social, intellectual development. There were 49 researches discussed during the four days of the conference and came out with 23 recommendations. This conference met a group of academics and intellectuals from various cultural and educational institutions of the world, the Republic of Burundi, Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Comoros, Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Yemen, Iraq, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Slovakia, the United States, Switzerland, and Germany. They shed the light on the main goal to achieve peace and tolerance among nations in the world as it was confirmed at the beginning of the conference by the President of Republic of Burundi. In addition, many studies and researches in the conference emphasized that Omanis went to Africa as advocates of civilization and their civilization mixed with Africans through marriage and alliance.
The seminar came out with various recommendations like achieving safe, peace, consolidates the valuable principles of tolerance, co-existence and dismiss the manifestations of extremism for all nations who keen to have civilized communication. The second recommendation is to emphasize the need of further unbiased academic studies to show the role of Omanis to explore the Great Lakes Countries in Africa. The third recommendation is to show the important needs to do objective studies about the role of the local population and Omanis who attended as civilization advocates. The fourth recommendation focused on deepening and committing the scientific research integrity. The fifth recommendation is to encourage searching and restoring archaeologies to protect them, as it is the complementary source for records and manuscripts in documenting historical and cultural information. The sixth is to emphasize the importance of the media role to spread the facts and remove ambiguity. The seventh is inventorying the records and manuscripts related to the Omani and African relations in the European, African and other archives. The eighth recommendation is to incite arranging more international conferences which aim to exchange experiences between the scientific and cultural institution. The ninth is to focus and emphasis on the scientific and objective sides as a component of modernization and development to create databank for the Omani and African relation, especially the relation with the East Africa and the Great Lakes Countries. The tenth is including syllabus and courses of schools, Arabian universities and the educational institution in East Africa and Great Lakes Countries. On the aspect of Islamic civilization in this area, it is shown that Islam is the religious of peace, tolerance and call human welfare to link with other civilizations and cultures. The eleventh recommendation explains the importance of paying more attention to teach Arabic Language in the East Africa and Great Lakes Countries. Other recommendations are to emphasis and verify the publications of the travelers and geographers which reflect the role of the civilization and Islamic culture. It also shows the importance of the cooperation between the universities in Oman and African countries.
In the opening ceremony Shiekh Kahlan Al-Kharousi, Assistant Mufti of Oman expressed peaceful messages about the importance of peace and reject all forms of racism in order to gather all nations of the world. Furthermore, he indicated that knowing each other is one basic pillar in the Holy Quran and we can communicate and reciprocate with others to enable others to know about us as well as we know what they have got, without rising sensations that threaten our identities from this communication. In the closing ceremony, Dr. Hamad Bin Mohammed Al-Dhoyani ended the conference with great appreciations and thanks to all participants to what they have done from researches and scientific studies that enrich the intellectual discussions to clarify ambiguity and scientific facts. In addition, he praised the President of Republic of Burundi for his kind patronage and support of the conference. In conclusion, Dr. Mohammed Rukara concluded his speech by estimating the unlimited support of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to the African people to enhance peaceful and development in these areas. He also thanked the organizers of the conference and emphasized the deepening studies by the expertise about the civilization, Islamic culture and the role of Omanis in the Great Lakes Countries which updates the knowledge of the participants of the correlation between Oman and Burundi several decades.
It is worth mentioning the fourth day of the conference which presented a group of working papers titled as: the contributions of Omanis in the Tanga, coastal Tanzaniaand the internal groups of in the Great Lakes Region of East Africa by Dr. Abdin Shendi associate professor of African and Islamic Studies, Adelphi University, United States of America. The second paper entitled the semantic dimensions of the Omani poetry in African by Dr. Issa bin Mohammed Al Sulaimani participant of modern literary criticism, professor of Faculty of Applied Science in Nizwa Oman. The third paper work entitled as the positive impact of the coexistence of languages, social and economic activities in East Africa and the Great Lakes by Dr. Naghendakomana, University for Peace and Reconciliation Republic of Burundi. The last paper work was about Ahmed bin Majid and his navigational role by Dr. Saeed bin Mohammed Al-Hashemi Associate of modern and contemporary history at Sultan Qaboos University.
Within the four days of the International Conference, there was a documentary exhibition showing a valuable group of the history of Omani civilization and its leading role through various historical periods.
