NRAA Concludes the Activities of Records Management Course Tomorrow..

NRAA concluding the activities of the Records and Archives Management “Theory, Practice, Policy and governance” under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhawyani, Chairman of NRAA. This course is organized by NRAA in collaboration with the International Institute for Archival Science in Trieste and Maribor, Italy, and in association with the University of Alma Mater Europea in Maribor –Slovenia. The five-day course was held at City Seasons Hotel and participated by number of employees from brotherly countries and from security, military and government bodies along with NRAA’s staff. In fact, the training course is a unique opportunity to improve the capabilities and performance of the staff. NRAA is keen to provide its employees with the ideal work environment along with improving their levels by organizing such courses.

Prof. Peter Pavel Klasnic, Director General of the IIAS, states that IIAS and NRAA organizing this course as a result of the successful organization for the pervious course last year. He added that the importance of this course bases on information exchanging between IIAS and NRAA in records and archives fields. He also praised the NRAA’s achieved works and cooperation with different archives organization around the world. Dr. Peter finished his comment with sending his and participations’ appreciation to H.E Chairman of NRAA.

Francis Mwangi, Executive Chairman of National Archives of Kenya and a course attendant, states that the course is important for Kenya archives because it touches everyday work like classification and practices difficulties. On the other hand, lecturers of the course explain the importance of records created inside and outside the archives. They clarify the purpose of maintaining records and their safety for archivists and researchers. Information security policy was the most critical point discussed in the course that includes other topics like electronic records management.

“The course is very important because it highlights international experiments in historical documents field along with displaying some related standards” said Basmah Al-Abbasy, Projects Manager in Palestine. She added that this course is a brainstorming to review the challenges facing archival organizations in best practices of archives management. Basmah ensures this course offers a great chance for participants to benefit from experiences of other countries in the field of archives, documentation and manuscripts.

Yousef Al Hinai, Head of Records Aggregation Section at NRAA, states that this course is an essential course to improve personnel quality in records management field. He added that it contributes in enabling safe and secure application of records management methodology and strategy. The course organized mainly to shed light on modern archives through its themes: theory, Policy and practice. First theme is “Theory” and types of information Created, reason of keeping them and information security. The second theme is “Policy and Governance” through governance structures for archival organization, procedures, laws and regulations, projects, processes and risk management, using software for governance and required backups. Finally, the third theme is “Practice” through displaying various approaches to building classifications and file plans and methods of digital preservation. Azhar Al-Abriah, Head of Classification Section at NRAA, praises the NRAA’s efforts of improving records specialists through regularly organizing such courses in cooperation with international archives organizations.
