The Shuras, the Nation and the National Councils and the House of Representative members of the Gulf States visited the National Documents and Archives Authority on Wednesday morning to see the authority’s experiences in the field of documents and archives. This visit came as part of the training program on the documents and archives management in accordance with the modern system requirements. The program is implemented by the Shuras Council and continues for five days in the framework of the GCC common plan of the gulf councils of The Arab Gulf Cooperation Council’s Countries at the headquarter of Shuras Council.
At the beginning of his visit to the authority, Dr. Juma bin Khalifa bin Mansour Al- Busaidi, director general of the Directorate-General for Research and Documents’ Exchange welcomed the convoy and delivered a speech about the importance of mutual visits and training programs to transfer expertise. Dr. Juma focused on the Authority’s working system, which has made great strides in various fields of work, stressing the importance of building modern systems for the management of documents and archives according to the latest international standards, stressing the desire of the National Documents and Archives Authority to promote all the ways to ensure the conservation of Omani history and to find the latest international standards for the management of documents and archives, Including paper and electronic ways.
The guests toured the various divisions of the authority to identify the mechanism of work followed in its various activities and miscellaneous services provided by the private and public sectors. A visual display was presented at the beginning of the round on the experience of authority to follow-up the entities for saving the documents. A second presentation was given on the mechanism and methods to obliterate documents according to the Documents and Archives law. During the training program visual presentations by specialists in the authority and in coordination with the Shuras Council were also introduced. The presentations talked about the authority’s most important objectives and specialties. The convoy was briefed on the authority’s management of archives and documents system under the law of the documents and archives, as well as another presentation on electronic documents and correspondence and the Electronic Document Management System Project.
Guests headed towards the Directorate-General for the organization of documents to take an overall idea on the General Directorate’s works and its most important activities. Guests were informed about some of the documents and manuscripts available and the work mechanism in the department of documentation and organization. They also visited the department of microfilm and its activities. Guests were also directed to the General Directorate for Research and Documents and identified its most important activities. The guests were briefed on the Oral History Project through which the authority intends to document and preserve the oral history, which represents part of the national memory similar to the written document. The convoy was briefed on the methods of packaging and sections for documents restoration and sterilization.
