15 February، 2024The National Records and Archives Authority and the Fisheries Development Oman approved the classification system for the retention schedules of their records, based on the Records and Archives Law issued pursuant to Royal Decree No. (60/2007). This system aims to empower entities to preserve and manage their records in accordance with the best administrative practices in a way that ensures effective retrieval and preservation of records in line with specific retention schedules. The adoption of the system also ensures the speed of records referencing to carry out the required work, as well as placing the records within the context of their origin and sorting them in files based on relevant topics to facilitate the follow-up and to ensure the preservation of the rights of individuals and groups. In addition, it guarantees the ability of the classification system to expand, develop and maintain its validity even if there is a change in the entity’s structures. The FDO and its subsidiaries, in collaboration with the NRAA, have developed records management system for managing their records in accordance with the law. This system includes all types of circulated records that reflect the tasks and activities undertaken by the entity. It also includes the retention schedules that determine the legal duration for keeping records, at the offices work level, intermediate records stores, or led to be destructed or permanent preserved at the NRAA.
The adoption of classification system was signed by His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhawyani, Chairman of the NRAA, and by the CEO of the Fisheries Development Oman Group and the heads of its subsidiaries.
It should be noted that the National Records and Archives Authority has so far approved 112 systems for various bodies and institutions.
