Judiciary Administrative Affairs Council Approves Specific Records Management System

 

Sheikh Dr. Ishaq Al-Busaidi, Chairman of Judiciary Administrative Affairs Council and H.E. Dr. Hamad Al-Dhawyani, Chairman of NRAA approved the specific records management system for the Council. This approval consists of retention schedules, classification scheme after the acceptance of NRAA, as per the law of the National Records and Archives promulgated by Royal Decree No. 60/2007, and by reference to article 18 of this law that each concerned entity is responsible for their records and coordinates with the Authority to prepare and implement their records system. The Authority coordinated with the institute to prepare a nominal list of the types of specific records and files that generated procedural tools to prepare specific records retention schedules and their classification scheme.

 

The procedural tools for the records management system are the main pillar for building a modern system that meets the best-approved international standards in this field. The system is based on registering records, classifying and coding them as per the classification scheme. This ensures easy reference and helps in controlling disposal, transfer and migration of records in compliance with their retention periods as well as preserve the individuals and societies’ interests in a manner that enables this system to choose systematically the records that are merit to be kept for national memory and for historical research reference. In addition, when this system enters into effect, records section in the concerned institutions will coordinate with NRAA’s staff to provide a training for the concerned staff on the various records management system tools.
