The NRAA participates in the “First Archivists Forum”
4 June، 2024A delegation from the Czech Brno University of Technology welcomed by H.E Dr. Hamad Al-Dhawyani, Chairman of the NRAA, at the National Records and Archives Authority. The delegation’s visit to the NRAA aimed at exploring the experience of the Sultanate of Oman in the field of records and archives management. During the meeting, both sides discussed mutual cooperation in the concerned fields before a film was played to introduce the delegation with the NRAA and its departments, work, regulations and general legislation.
The delegation also toured the various divisions of the NRAA as per to a prepared program. The tour started from the Oral History Department, which records narrations of some citizens who witnessed important periods of Omani history in audio and video, as well the delegation watched the works of the Access to Records department, which represents the final stage of the records in terms of accessibility to the public and beneficiaries for research purposes. During the visit, the delegation was also briefed on the Sterilization Section, which is the first stage in the process of preserving the records from damage, and eliminating any bacteria, microbes, or plankton that may be attached to the records or manuscript. The delegation then viewed the Electronic Storage Section and the Permanent Exhibition of Records and Archives.
Such visits by foreign delegations provide an opportunity to introduce the pioneering and successful experience of the NRAA in the field of records and archives at the local, regional and international levels and to review some of the history and cultural heritage of the Sultanate of Oman. In addition, the NRAA proudly presents in these visits its cooperation with other institutions like international archives in the fields that serve records and manuscripts and preserve Oman’s national memory.
